The **Journal** is where your child's nursery shares learning moments with you — photos, videos and short stories about what your child has been doing. ## Seeing new moments Open **Journal** to see everything shared about your children, newest first. If you have more than one child at the nursery, use the name filters at the top to see just one of them. A single journal moment showing the photo, the story, a What's next panel and the area of learning it links to Some moments include: * **What's next** — what your child's key person plans to try next, so you can pick up the same thread at home. * **Areas of learning** — the part of the curriculum the moment links to, if your nursery uses them. Tap the ♥ to let the team know you loved a moment. They can see the count. In a group photo you'll only ever see **your own** child's name. Other families' children are never named in your journal. ## Email updates You'll get an email summary when new moments are shared — daily by default. Prefer a weekly round-up? Open **My Account** and choose **Weekly summary** under **Notifications**. ## Progress reports Progress reports have their own **Reports** page. They're written by your child's key person, drawing on the term's observations, and appear as soon as they're shared. See [Reports](/docs/parents/reports). ## Keeping your child's journal Once a year — on a date your nursery chooses — you'll be emailed a secure download of the past year's journal: a PDF of every moment plus the original photos and videos. When your child leaves the nursery you'll receive their complete journal the same way. Each link needs a one-time code sent to your email and stays available for **14 days**, so download it and save it somewhere safe. ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Why can't I see the journal? Only contacts with parental responsibility can see a child's journal. If you think that's wrong, ask the nursery to check your contact record. ### Can I download a single photo? Not from the journal itself. The yearly and leaver exports include the original photos and videos at full quality. ### Who decides whether my child appears in photos? You do — tell the nursery what you're happy with and they record it against your child. Staff see a reminder of your answer whenever they share photos. ### A moment has disappeared. Staff can edit or remove something after sharing it, for example if it was posted in error. Ask the nursery if you're not sure.
