Importing Data
The Import/Export section helps you migrate your data from any existing nursery software into Pigeonhole. Our tools guide you through converting and importing your data step by step.
Overview
To ensure a smooth migration, follow these steps in order:
- Convert your data files to the Pigeonhole format using our AI conversion tool. This makes it easy to convert an export from any system into the pigeonhole format.
- Import your data in this order: Children → Relatives → Staff. This ensures all relationships are preserved.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for each step. You’ll be up and running in no time!
Step 1: Convert Files
Use the AI conversion tool to transform your data files from any existing system into the Pigeonhole format.

Once conversion is complete you can download and review the converted files for any errors before proceeding.

Step 2: Import Your Data
After you have reviewed your downloaded files, you can import them into pigeonhole. Click the import csv file button and upload your files. Make sure you import data in the following order:
- Import your children data first. This is required before importing relatives or staff, as other records may reference children.
- After children, import relatives. Relatives are linked to children and must be imported after children are in the system.
- Finally, import your staff records. Staff can be linked to children and relatives, so should be imported last.
Before you import data, validation checks are performed and you can review and issues before you import.
